#FF: @DietrichFilms

This week we are highlighting the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock, Pa. as our #FF. The Dietrich operates as a non-profit organization and is a cornerstone of the community. Their Twitter account, @DietrichFilms is a great way to stay connected with what is going on at the theater from film festivals to children’s activities.

In addition to their regular movie showings, the Dietrich is also home to some community favorites: the Spring and Fall Film Festivals and the annual showing of It’s a Wonderful Life creates lines down the sidewalk for people waiting to see the holiday classic. The staff also works to ensure that the Dietrich also offers classes that teach people about pottery and sculptures, global food and cultures, stained glass, jewelry making and is always open to any other topics people wish to explore.

The Dietrich is also a survivor of the devastating flooding last fall across the Northern Tier due to hurricane Irene. The community rallied around the theater and worked to ensure that it would be restored to its original splendor.

Cabot is proud to be a sponsor of the Dietrich and all they do, but to really get a better sense of the theater, we reached out to Laurel Radzieski, the Dietrich Theater Cultural Programming Assistant.

How did @DietrichFilms get started and how long have you been tweeting?
@DietrichFilms was started by our current Executive Director as another way to provide the public with Dietrich Theater movies, programs, and events. We have been tweeting since July 2011.

Please tell us a little bit about what the Dietrich Theater and how you use Twitter to spread the word about your events. The Dietrich Theater is the home of the Wyoming County Cultural Center in downtown Tunkhannock. We are a non-profit movie theater and we use the proceeds from films to support cultural and educational programming. Twitter has allowed us to connect to a unique group of businesses and individuals who may not have heard about our movies, events, and programming.

What has been the most rewarding outcome since joining the Twitterverse? We have been connected with a large group of artists and businesses that we may not have encountered otherwise. We are always trying to reach out into the community, as well as connect with other organizations that share our goals or interests.

How else are you using social media to get your message across? We also have a Facebook, and we have a YouTube page with videos of a few of our past productions. In the coming months, we will be exploring YouTube as more of a social networking tool.

Is there anything else you would like to add about the Dietrich or @DietrichFilms?We will continue to grow and we look forward to developing a dialogue with our followers. This account is for them, and we would like to go in the direction of using @DietrichFilms as another way the community can give feedback on the Dietrich Theater.
