Thrill Seeking Summer

Summer is winding down, but, before the cold weather comes, you still have time for one or two more adventures. Below are four of our favorite summer escapes.

Whatever your adventure this summer, oil and natural gas derivatives keep you and your family safe. Whether holding sunscreen or providing life-saving flotation, plastics and synthetic materials fuel your summer adventures. Could you image riding a bike without a helmet? Kayaking without a modern, lightweight boat? Rock climbing without a harness? Or even a weekend picnic without plastic utensils?

However you like to adventure, oil and natural gas helps to make each activity possible.

Kayaks and oars are made of plastic, while emergency life vests are made of synthetic fabrics. Activities like biking or zip lining requires a helmet, which has a plastic shell and synthetic foam interiors. Camping needs a vast array of plastics and synthetic fabrics, from your tent to your sleeping bag to your backpack. Even plastic utensils for a picnic or day at an amusement park come from oil and natural gas!

Before your thrill-seeking summer comes to an end, and the cool northeast weather rolls in, check out these one of a kind outdoor attractions for families and adrenaline junkies alike.

Ohiopyle State Park

This southwestern Pennsylvania state park is a dream come true for outdoor adventurers. While famous for whitewater rafting, the park also offers family-friendly rafting and kayaking in the Youghiogheny River. There’s rock climbing, camping, hiking, biking and more for the outdoorsy soul. If you want to see what it’s like to truly be one with nature, check out one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most picturesque architectural feats, Fallingwater, built over a waterfall.

Cedar Point

This northeastern Ohio amusement park is the place for thrill seekers, but also great for a family weekend getaway. Cedar Point boasts some of the world’s tallest and fastest roller coasters like Millennium Force, Valravn, and Top Thrill Dragster. Many attractions have seats made of plastic or lined with synthetic materials. It also offers beautiful resorts on Lake Erie and fun-filled itineraries for children of all ages. Get your fill fun carnival games, funnel cakes, top-thrill roller coasters, and stunning views of the great lake – don’t forget to grab a plastic souvenir cup!

Kelleys Island

A visit to Lake Erie is the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. Take a ferry, powered by diesel fuel, to Kelleys Island where you can explore by bike, golf cart, or simply your walking shoes. Whether you’re water skiing, tanning by the water, or staying on one of the island’s campgrounds, Lake Erie’s adventures are waiting. Pack up your sunscreen and spend a day on the shore!

Poconos Mountains

The four-county region is famous for its resorts, scenic beauty, 150 lakes including the well known Lake Wallenpaupack, and small and charming historic towns. You will find plenty of quaint Inns, and relaxing spas which can cater to the less adventurous types. On the other hand, fun filled waterparks using plastic inner tubes and adventure courses, offer excitement for adrenaline seekers.

Whether you travel by plane or car to any of these wonderful destinations, oil and natural gas helps get you there.
