[vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/2″]For this week’s Follow Friday, we are talking with Hendrik te Grotenhuis, of the Netherlands-based website, Global Energy Prof[essional]s. Global Energy Profs can be found on Twitter @EnergyProfPlease tell us a little bit about your purpose for Global Energy Profs.
Global Energy Profs [short for Professionals] is an online platform for and by energy professionals worldwide – we communicate “connecting with energy”. Started with a LinkedIn Group, we have enlarged our activities in 2012 with the website, www.globalenergyprofs.com. On this website, energy professionals can share individual inside stories about their job, vision, challenges, dreams and ideas about the energy sector.
Are you the only person that tweets? Are the posts contributed by anyone else?
Three members of the Global Energy Profs team send the tweets.

We use twitter at this moment mainly to announce new content published on our website. The BlogSpot postings and OnTheJob interviews are unique for our website and we want to use Twitter’s outreach to promote our original content.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]What would you like to accomplish with the social medium?
We want to connect energy professionals all throughout the world. Every day we get lots of new followers on all our different social media channels — all very interesting people who want to connect with energy. They are the visitors and, at the same time, contributors of our website.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Global Energy Profs is a relatively new organization – started just last year. Yet, already, you have reached over 40,000 members. Do you think this would have been possible without LinkedIn?
The LinkedIn group, Global Energy Profs, proves the power of a social network. We have never done serious promotion for it; people from the energy sector saw the connections within the group and hopped on-board! At the same time, LinkedIn can be limited, and our website provides additional service to our members and energy professionals.

The first publications of inside stories of individual energy professionals are a great success. We and the energy professionals who wrote a Blogspot or were interviewed for an OnTheJob interview, receive many positive reactions. Also numbers of visitors of the website are increasing rapidly. For us this is a sign that we are at the right track and that we are providing a service that is appreciated by energy professionals worldwide! But this is still the beginning… We are currently working on the next steps and further enlargement of our initiative.
[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]What do you think is the most interesting aspect of @EnergyProfs?
We tweet about the unique blogs and OntheJob interviews of energy professionals worldwide, but also about some interesting energy news facts chosen by our content managers.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The “BlogSpot” section on your website covers a range of Energy-related topics. If someone is interested in contributing a post, what should they do?
We are interested in every energy professional’s story! They can send us a message with a few sentences on what their post will be about. Our content manager can then provide the guidelines and will assist in making the post live on the site. We only want the best for our readers, of course!
