Know what’s below. Call before you dig!

[vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]How many of you know if (and where) utility lines are located under your property? Probably not that many. The location of underground utility lines is something that most homeowners don’t know off the top of their heads. That’s why the “Know what’s below. Call before you dig.” campaign was created – to take the guesswork out of any projects that require you to dig into your yard. The campaign is designed to help prevent homeowners from potentially damaging a utility line while doing projects that require digging in the ground.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Underground utility lines can be very dangerous if they are hit. Damage to a line can have you paying fines and repair costs and it can even result in serious bodily harm or death. In the United States a utility line is damaged every three minutes (Sensus and 811).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image css_animation=”” image=”2005″ border_color=”” img_link_large=”” link=”http://cabotsusq.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/call-before-you-dig.jpg” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″]Home improvement projects can be as big or small as you make them but one thing that really matters is what’s below the surface that you might be digging into. Before beginning any projects that will require digging, simply dial the National One-Call number: 811 or the Pennsylvania number: 1-800-242-1776.[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Making this call is a crucial part to any digging projects you plan to start. Call a few days before the start of your project to tell the operator what type of digging you plan to do and the specifications of the your job. They will then send out a locator who will mark the approximate locations of the underground utility line. Did we forget to mention that this whole process is FREE of charge? It’s true, just by making this free and easy call you can avoid a digging catastrophe.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/2″]The “Call before you dig” campaign was developed by the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) in May of 2007. They are on a mission to keep the public and environment safe by protecting the underground infrastructure. CGA has put an immense amount of effort into this campaign. If you want to support this campaign further, make the 811 Promise. It’s a simple way to show that you are making the effort to keep yourself and the environment around you safe. And for an added bonus, you can enter the Race to the South Sweepstakes. If you happen to win remember your friends over here at Well Said…we’d love to take a mini-vacation to South Beach![/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image css_animation=”” image=”2007″ border_color=”” img_link_large=”” link=”http://cabotsusq.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/digging-dog.jpg” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]To learn more about the Common Ground Alliance, please visit their Facebook page and follow them on Twitter.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
