Community Foundation Reports New Hospital Fund Campaign Results
Cabot / EMHS Community Match Fund Surpasses Goal
[Montrose, PA] – The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains is very pleased to announce that local citizens, organizations, and corporations have surpassed the original $1 million goal for the Cabot/EMHS Community Match Fund to benefit the Hospital Building Project of Endless Mountains Health Systems. During the recently concluded community campaign, natural gas industry partners, other businesses and private citizens of the Endless Mountains region have contributed over $1.2 million.
Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation made a leadership donation of $1 million and had originally planned to match community donations to a level of an additional $1 million, but upon seeing the local community’s substantial participation, Dan O. Dinges, Chairman, President & CEO of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, increased the match to $1,200,000. At the conclusion of the campaign, $3,483,368 had been raised in an astounding four months for the Endless Mountains Health Systems’ new hospital.
In addition to the community match fund campaign, Robert T. Kelly, Trustee of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation announced a grant to the project of $1,000,000 bringing the total raised to over $4.4 million. The Cabot / EMHS Community Match Funds coupled with EMHS funds and the Weinberg Foundation grant fully funds the $5.6 million Physician’s Clinic of the new hospital project.
“This new hospital project and the Cabot / EMHS Community Match Fund is proof positive of what makes the Endless Mountains community so wonderful”, said Peter Quigg, President of The Community Foundation, “ Our friends and neighbors recognized the new hospital as a major need in our community and they have generously acted to meet that need in a significant way. Cabot’s leadership has made all the difference. We should all be very pleased with the results of this major community fundraising project.”
“Our company is gratified to be joining other natural gas industry partners, business and community leaders in advancing superior health care to our neighbors,” said George Stark, External Affairs Director at Cabot. “We are part of this community and we plan to be here for many, many years to come. We think investment in the new hospital is a great way for the community to come together for the common good. Cabot has always seen this Community Match Fund as an excellent investment in our region and we are very pleased that everyone in the community has stepped up so well.”
A vision for quality health care begun by Dr. Ray Bennett in the 1950s when his parents mortgaged their farm to help finance the current hospital now enters a new era. The Community Foundation is proud to have been asked to assist with this most worthwhile project – and in addition to Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation – we extend our thanks to those who have generously provided their support. The new hospital will have access to a multi-specialty physician suite, a six-bay emergency department with an airborne infection isolation room, cardiac/trauma room and a helipad. There will be an expanded operating room, additional exam rooms and increased number of beds. The new hospital will be located on land in Bridgewater Township and will provide top-of-the-line health care for the residents of Susquehanna County.
