A Recap of Educational Outreach in 2015

[vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation has a strong commitment to the communities in which it operates and an even stronger commitment to doing what it can to improve the quality of life in those areas. To that extent, I wanted to recap the comprehensive educational outreach undertaken by Cabot and its partners through the first half of 2015.

For multiple years Cabot has sponsored the extraordinary work of the Susquehanna County Career & Technology center through equipment donations, in-classroom guidance, and scholarships. This relationship is working well; Cabot decided to increase its reach to other CTC programs in northeast Pennsylvania using SCCTC as a model.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]In 2015 Cabot is awarding $10,000 educational assistance grants to six career and technical programs in addition to its continued support of SCCTC. Each grant is made possible through Pennsylvania’s Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row animation=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Cabot applauds the work of each institution and is committed to assisting both students and educators pursue careers in all technical fields, especially those pertaining to the energy industry. Through this funding Cabot wants to make sure as communities grow and jobs expand, it has helped train the workforce of the future.

Cabot is partnering with Junior Achievement to offer a program called Opportunities in Energy to regional high schools. This program explores energy sources, the development, transportation, and usage of each as well as the plethora of careers associated with each. The class also explores how every career, from nursing to consumer sales, benefits from affordable, abundant, reliable energy.

While the purpose of the $2.5 million endowment is to strengthen the next generation of technologists, measurement specialists, and compression technicians currently enrolled in the program, one of the underlying goals of the endowment is to create bridges between career and technical education centers and the school of PNG. Many CTC programs offer core education tracts (welding, engine repair, electronics, machining) that mesh well with the curriculum offered by the school of PNG. Through dual enrollment bridge programs students can simultaneous earn college credit while working towards completing high school requirements.
